LGBTQ Support Group

The LGBTQ Support Group, or T.R.U.E. (Teens Respecting and Understanding Each Other) is a program from Gateway, that helps lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning youth between the ages of 14 and 18 in the Lansing area. The mission of T.R.U.E. is to provide a safe space that is free from bullying, homophobia, biphobia, & transphobia for LGBTQ youth and allies ages 14-18.

LGBTQ youth are often at higher risk for homelessness, family conflict, and bullying than their peers, making Gateway’s LGBTQ Support Group an integral part of our commitment to youth.

Affirming the LIVES of LGBTQ* Teens through Peer Support

(*Includes pansexual, queer, and other aligned identities)

T.R.U.E. is co-facilitated by two adult mentors skilled in supporting young people as they explore their gender identities/expression and sexual orientation . T.R.U.E is run with help from interns and volunteers. T.R.U.E meets every Tuesday afternoon from 4:00 to 5:30 and features guest speakers, field trips, art therapy, and other fun activities. The group will also meet at different locations depending on the discussion topics, making for a dynamic and fun experience.
