Angel House is an innovative and collaborative project of
Child & Family Services, Capital Area. A combination of
emergency shelter and children's assessment center,
Angel House is unique because it combines these two
crucial aspects ofhelping child victims of abuse and neglect.
In 1998, child welfare advocates from across Ingham
County met to address the county's increasing number of
children entering the foster care system because of abuse
and neglect. More than eight years of planning culminated
with the implementation of a $2.1 million capital campaign
in late October 2003. Angel House opened in 2006.
Angel House is now a haven for children in crisis—children
who have been taken into protective custody because of
abuse or neglect, or who are victims of sexual abuse.
The mission of Angel House is “to provide a coordinated,
multidisciplinary approach to the problem of child abuse,
including efficient, effective, child-centered assessment and
emergency shelter services.”
